Apple Chipmaker Foxconn to Prototype EVs in Ohio and Build Them in India
By Dean Adams Curtis
The Taiwanese multinational electronics manufacturer, Foxconn, maker of Apple chips, still has an EV on the way.
The EV was designed in downtown LA and prototypes of the vehicle are being created in Ohio. They plan to build the electric vehicle in India.
Foxconn is in partnership with a U.S. startup. Malacca Straights Acquisition, a blank check company that focuses on mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations, has provided financing.
The team's upcoming electric vehicle, INDI ONE, is somewhat oddly-named, as if to evoke mental reference to an Indianapolis Formula One internal combustion race car.
It is envisioned to be avcustomizable EV. The folks bringing it to market are following a now well-established retail sales model for vehicles that has been used by Tesla and now Vinfast.
The first retail outlet for ordering the electric vehicles is in LA, in a Beverly Hills boutique.
Foxconn is participating in Mobility In Harmony, an open EV ecosystem that promotes collaboration in the mobility industry. Intregingly, INDI ONE EV customers will be able to utilize their Vehicle Integrated Computer, or VIC, as a node for a blockchain.
"This will enable every user, driver and owner to benefit from all transactions occurring on the blockchain," a company spokesperson noted.
INDI EV's notion of vehicles as moving and mostly stationary computer processors for hire, may seem far-fetched. Yet VICs are now, and will continue to be,
powerfully capable computers that, even without being dually utilized as nodes for blockchain computing, are already connected with arrays of vehicle sensors that will serve, if enabled by EV drivers/owners, as part of an ecosystem of vehicle-to-vehicle V2V communication that advocates say will move us into an era of fewer accidents from vehicle/human interactions.
Keep an eye on this space to see further info about the EV's progress to market and market entry.
FYI, the new firm's NASDAQ symbol is $INDI.
